1 DAY 4x4 TRIP IN THE SAHARA DESERT
Merzouga - Erfoud - Rissani - Merzouga (120 km track + 50 km road):
In the morning at 9 am, we prepare our off-road adventure for the whole day in the desert. Our goal is to explore the local life of the Saharan people. sometimes pursuing the tracks of the Paris-Dakar, we will cross small villages oases and desert plateaus as the black desert with volcanic stones, salt lakes, the village of Gnawa (Khamlia), former mines Mifis, local nomads tent enjoying a tea for their hospitality and the careers of fossils with marble near Erfoud. After we were in the area of the Ziz Valley (The old caravan route from the north to the south) to reach the Rissani city at noon and lunch at a local restaurant (Arab Pizza!). This historic capital of Kasbahs (About 240 village/Kasbah) named before "Sijilmassa" was an ancient crossroads of the caravans in time of Morocco. It is also the birthplace of the Alawite dynasty in the sixteenth century. We'll have the mausoleum visit of the Alaouite dynasty founder and former ksar Abdel Halim in Rissani, then we return to Merzouga later in the evening and the end of our day trip.
2DAYS / 1NIGHT 4x4 MINI-TOUR IN THE SAHARA DESERT
Day 1: Merzouga - Erg Chebbi Tour - Ouzina Desert (130 km track + 25 km road):
After breakfast at 9 am, we start our 4x4 adventure in the desert to experience life in the region. We'll start with the trip around the dunes of Erg Chebbi sometimes pursue the tracks of the Paris-Dakar. We cross small villages and oases across the desert plateaus as the black desert with volcanic stones, salt lakes, the village of Khamlia known for their spiritual music of the Gnawa, old mines Mifis, local nomadic tent with a tea hospitality and small fossils sites. We return to Merzouga for lunch at a local restaurant (Berber Pizza!). Afternoon, continue south along the Algerian border in the village of Taouz visiting old rock engavings dating back 6000 years B-JC. Finally, we reach the Ouzina village and night in a desert kasbah at the contrast of the dunes and mountains.
Day 2: Ouzina Desert - Ramlia - M'harech - Rissani - Merzouga (140 km track + 60 km road):
We'll depart for our second step of this journey after your breakfast. We head towards Merzouga dunes through the village of Ramlia crossing the same desert landscapes to reaching the M'harech pass, then continue the desert track to following up the main road to get to Rissani and break lunch. Afternoon, we make a tour in this great palm groves of Ziz visiting the Moulay Ali Cherfi Mausoleum (The founder of the Alawite dynasty in the 16th century) and the ancient Abdel Halim kasbah. Finally, we arrive to Merzouga by the track through the end of Ziz palms. Arrival in your accommodation and end of our journey.
3DAYS / 2NIGHTS 4x4 TOUR IN THE SAHARA DESERT
Day 1: Merzouga - Taouz - Tafraoute - Zagora (160 km track + 80 km road): Early departure to the direction of the Draa Valley to Zagora, the former starting caravans "Timbuktu 52 days". You will cross the desert plateau as salt lakes, hamadas, the black desert in volcanic rocks, small villages and oases, small dunes and mountains, nomads in tents and acacia trees ... etc. We will visit the village of Khamlia Gnawa (Sudan black) and old rock engravings near village Taouz reaching Tafraout and lunch break at a local restaurant, or as an outdoor picnic. After Tizi n'Tafilalt to get to that grand Morocco River in the late evening. Dinner and overnight in a Riad Hotel, where in a local camp in the desert.
Day 2: Zagora - M'hamid - Erg Chegaga - Foum Zguid (90 km road + 120 km track):
After breakfast we will start our second step towards the desert of Erg Chegaga along the fascinating valley of the Draa (the largest palm in the world). Visit the medieval library and the local pottery of Tamegroute, then get to Osisi M'hamid located the Algerian border. After we pass through this wild and arid desert to reach the dunes Chegaga and lunch break as a picnic in a abandonned palm oases. Afternoon, passing over a large dry lake Iriki (30 km), the highest lakes in the Moroccan desert, then through the black desert of volcanic rocks and fossilized rocks to arrive in the town of Foum Zguid. Night in a Hotel desert in the rooms or in the well-appointed tents!
Day 3: Foum Zguid - Zagora - Nkoub - Merzouga (340 km road + 50 track): The start of the final leg of this adventure will be after breakfast. We head to our starting point by road via Zagora, then along the impressive Draa Valley to the fortified village of Nkoub by a mountain track and lunch break. After we go through Alnif and large grove of Rissani and visit the Mausoleum Moulay Ali Cherfi (founder of the Alawite dynasty in the 16th century) and the old kasbah Abdel Halim to arrive at Merzouga in the late evening and end of our adventure .
